Clive Staples Lewis (1898–1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. Known to friends as “Jack,” Lewis was also one of the century’s most celebrated fantasy writers. Alongside his close friend J. R. R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, he was a member of the Inklings, an informal writers’ club that met regularly to discuss story ideas and literature.

Lewis’s fascination with fairy tales, myths, and ancient legends, coupled with inspiration drawn from his childhood, led him to write The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Six additional books set in the same universe followed, forming The Chronicles of Narnia, widely regarded as one of the greatest and most beloved epic fantasy series of all time. The final volume, The Last Battle, was awarded the Carnegie Medal, one of the highest marks of literary excellence. The Narnia series has sold over 115 million copies across seventy countries, been translated into over sixty languages, and has inspired multiple major motion picture adaptations. The series has most recently been optioned for a new adaptation to be developed by Netflix, continuing to introduce new generations to the magical world of Narnia.

In addition to Narnia, Lewis wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience. His most distinguished and popular works include Mere Christianity, The Great Divorce, Out of the Silent Planet and The Screwtape Letters. His writings continue to attract thousands of new readers every year, combining imaginative storytelling with deep philosophical and spiritual insight.
